• The Cleveland Browns unveiled their new uniforms, hyping a throw back to the days of Otto Graham, Jim Brown and Bernie Kosar.
For fans quarantined at home, the news of a new uniform was a welcomed appetizer to keep us distracted just ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft.
While there are some things the Browns didn’t get right with the new look, they mostly got it right, as our Chad Porto shared.
In particular, the Browns knocked these three aspects of the uniform out of the park.
1. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it
If you were born in the early 1980s, congratulations, you’re a part of the last generation of fans who experienced winning.
At 37, I’m a part of this demographic, and while I don’t remember every throw Bernie Kosar made, I do remember going to Browns watch parties, my mom making cookies she called dog biscuits, aunts making Browns’ themed necklaces and just a general excitement around the team.
I was six the last time the Browns played in the AFC title game, but I remember, and I was forever hooked.
So to see the Browns throwback to the days of Kosar, Clay Mathews, Mack and Byner was just fine by me.
That’s not to say I didn’t appreciate ownership’s effort to try some new uniforms five years ago. As you get older, you tend not to sweat the small stuff in life, and the uniform of you favorite football team is one of those things.
I was an ardent defender of an outdoor stadium back when the Browns were re-born in and 1999, because, after all, “That’s how football’s supposed to be played!” Stupid me. Everytime I got to a game in December, I year for a controlled climate and being comfortable. For the $7,000 they charge per ticket, is it too much to ask.
Back to the uniforms. The combination the Browns went back to, time tested and history approved. The organization mostly got it right.

Next: Fewer combos

      Cleveland Browns

2. They ditched all the combinations
If memory serves me right, Alec Schiener was in the charge on the business side of things when the Browns revealed their new uniforms ahead of the 2015 season.
The uniforms we ultimately got were supposedly heavily researched, with Nike and the Browns even going so far as to suit up actors and watch them play on TV.
Twelve different uniform combinations, is what Cleveland’s marketing department sold us on! Geesh, the team had mad more uniform combos than wins in the first four seasons the Browns wore those threads.
I think most fans don’t care about uniforms, as Cleveland won. That said, the uniforms the Browns gave to history yesterday will forever be synonymous with a historical futility. There aren’t many teams who had as bad a run as the Browns did while wearing those digs, and now thankfully, they’re gone forever.

Next: Good riddance orange numbers...almost

Cleveland Browns (Photo by Rich Schultz /Getty Images)

3. Good riddance orange numbers…almost
The orange numbers are gone, for most part, and that’s a good idea.
When rumors started circulating that the team was looking to re-do its look again, there was a lot of buzz about coaches complaining about the orange numbers and how they were hard to see on TV, or up above from the press box.
Crazy, that after all the research put into the design and color, that none of the ad wizards at Nike could figure this one out.
Well, by throwing back, the Browns will have white numerals on the Brown shirts and brown numbers on the white uniforms.
The orange numbers still linger, though, on the color rush jersey, which is fine, because fans like the look, as the sight of that jersey conjures up one of the few good memories this team’s given us since returning in 1999.

Next: Top 40 current Cleveland athletes ranked

When the Browns broke their 19-game losing streak in 2018 against the Jets, they were in those color rush unis, and it was a night many a fan won’t forget.

;(function ($) $(document).ready(function () try tpsInstance = new tps.createSlideshow(tpsOptions); catch(e) );(jQuery)); (function () // create the elements and set all attributes:var conversationScript = document.createElement('script');conversationScript.setAttribute('async', 'true');conversationScript.setAttribute('src', ' _kImYF8bD');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-spotim-module', 'spotim-launcher');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-post-url', ' -browns-new-uniforms-3-things-they-got-right/');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-post-id', '78019');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-spotim-multi-instance', true);conversationScript.setAttribute('data-article-tags', 'Cleveland Browns');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-disqus-url', ' -browns-new-uniforms-3-things-they-got-right/#!');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-disqus-identifier', '78019 =78019');// append the elements to the container:var container = document.querySelector('#comments-wrapper-78019');container.appendChild(conversationScript);)(); Top StoriesFactory of Sadness 2 yearsCleveland Browns rumors: Broncos eyeing trade with Browns, 10th pick

(on his conversation with Jackson at midfield after the Ravens' touchdown) "I said it was a hell of play. He told me, 'Good stuff' but, you know, a little more explicit. I mean, he made a hell of a play, and that's what he does. I hit his arm when he was throwing. I was expecting it to be a fumble or an incomplete pass. And he gets it 30 yards down the field, into the end zone. The guy is a great player. I dapped him up, because I have sportsmanship. At least in my eyes, I help guys up, and I dap them up when they make a play like that, that he made. And I don't think anything should come out of us having respect for our opponent. I don't think there should be any doubt in our heart or who we are on that field." 041b061a72
